Henderson Joins Board of Coaches vs. Cancer
April 11, 2017 | Men's Basketball
Mitch Henderson, the Franklin C. Cappon-Edward G. Green '40 head coach of the Princeton men's basketball program, has joined the board of the Coaches vs. Cancer organization, a joint effort between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
At the NABC convention held in the city of the Final Four, Henderson recently met with his colleagues in the Coaches vs. Cancer program as well as organization staff. Among Henderson's Division I coaching colleagues with him in the photo above are Saint Joseph's Phil Martelli, BYU's Dave Rose, Kansas State's Bruce Weber, former coach Bobby Cremins, Oklahoma's Lon Kruger, Notre Dame's Mike Brey, Syracuse's Jim Boeheim, Iowa's Fran McCaffery, Tulsa's Frank Haith, Temple's Fran Dunphy, Illinois' Brad Underwood and Creighton's Greg McDermott.Â
Throughout his Princeton tenure, Henderson has taken part in Coaches vs. Cancer efforts. He participated in the American Cancer Society's Cancer Action Network Lobby Day in 2015 and 2013, a local event in April 2013 to promote ACS's Cancer Prevention Study-3 initiative, and has twice visited the NASDAQ stock exchange with Coaches vs. Cancer, in 2013 and 2011.Â
On the court, Henderson became Princeton's third-winningest coach in program history this past season, with his 119 wins behind only Cappon and his former mentor Pete Carril. He helped guide Princeton to its 27th Ivy League championship and 25th NCAA Tournament appearance, facing off against fellow Coaches vs. Cancer board member Brey as the Tigers took Notre Dame to the final possession. Henderson was also recognized as the Ivy League Coach of the Year and the NABC District 13 Coach of the Year.
