Henderson Rings Closing Bell at Nasdaq Stock Exchange
May 12, 2011 | Men's Basketball
One day after being recognized at Yankee Stadium prior to the New York Yankees game Wednesday night, Mitch Henderson was among a group of coaches getting the opportunity to ring the closing bell at the Nasdaq Stock Exchange Thursday afternoon thanks to their work with the Coaches vs. Cancer organization.
Following the bell ringing, Henderson and his coaching counterparts visited a capital firm and made calls in support of Coaches vs. Cancer before enjoying a reception event at the Nasdaq building.
The ringing of the opening and closing bells at the stock exchanges in New York is sometimes done ceremoniously by notables from across many fields. In a recent venture into the world of sports, members of the Green Bay Packers rang the New York Stock Exchange closing bell on February 16 after winning the Super Bowl.
Individually, the appearance is just one of several on Henderson's schedule in his first spring and summer on the job at Princeton. After helping the Tigers to three Ivy League championships, three NCAA Tournament berths and two NCAA Tournament game victories, Henderson graduated in 1998 with a degree in economics, writing a thesis entitled, "International Investment as a Strategy of Portfolio Diversification."
Henderson was named as the Franklin C. Cappon-Edward G. Green '40 head coach of Princeton men's basketball on April 20.
