Name Sam Gravitte

Major Anthropology, with certificates in Theater and Music Theater
High School Ridgefield

Athletic Accomplishments:
One of the most versatile defensive players Princeton has ever had, Sam Gravitte will be in his fourth season as a major contributor to the men's lacrosse team. During his career he has started on close defense and also been the No. 1 longstick midfielder, a first-line shortstick defensive midfielder and a face-off specialist, something only two other Princeton players in the last 25 years have done. An exceptional athlete who holds his high school's record for touchdowns in a career in football, he has three career goals, one career assist, 18 career caused turnovers and 69 career ground balls.
Off the Field:
Sam Gravitte was pretty much born into the theater as the son of Debbie and Beau Gravitte. Sam's father is an actor, director, and an Associate Artistic Director at The Actors Studio in New York. Sam's mother is a Broadway veteran who won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Muscial for "Jerome Robbins' Broadway." Sam himself has been in numerous shows in his life, including several through the Program in Theater here at Princeton. He is currently playing the male lead in "Once" at the Berlind Theater at McCarter as part of his senior thesis (the show opened last weekend and has performances from Thursday through Sunday this week; go to mccarter.org for more information).
Sam on Sam:
"The only feeling that can rival being on a lacrosse field for me is being on stage. There's something transcendent about being part of something bigger than yourself, I've found, something about being part of a team or cast that has a larger group goal in mind that draws out the best in people. I've been lucky to be part of some incredible teams and casts here at Princeton, and each of those teams and casts have validated my hopes of becoming an actor. There's nothing like doing what I love on stage and having all my teammates and best friends out in the audience supporting me - except maybe winning a lacrosse game with them."
