Ella Hampson celebrates her goal against Maryland in Princeton's 2-1 win.
No. 8 Princeton Tops No. 10 Maryland In 10th Straight One-Goal Game In Series
September 28, 2025 | Field Hockey
What would a Princeton-Maryland field hockey game be without late-game drama?
Beth Yeager and Ella Hampson scored goals and the Tiger defense turned away a pair of late penalty corners to lead No. 8 Princeton to a 2-1 win over No. 10 Maryland in College Park Sunday afternoon. Does a one-goal game between these teams sound familiar? It should, since this was the 10th straight time the margin of victory between the two has been a single goal.
Yeager started the scoring with a rocket in the second quarter for the 49th of her career. Hampson's goal was a blast off a rebound with 36 seconds left in the third quarter, making it a 2-0 game into the final 15 minutes.
Princeton outshot Maryland 17-9 and got huge, though statless, performances from Caitlin Thompson, Tabby Vaughan, Izzy Morgan, Molly Nye and others as the Tigers controlled the midfield.
The Princeton senior class became the first in program history to defeat Maryland all four years. Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Yale Friday.

If you thought the Terps would go quietly, though, that wasn't going to happen. Maci Bradford got Maryland on the board with eight minutes to go on a beautiful move and finish, and then the Terps took another three shots, one of which Olivia Caponiti kicked away and two others that were blocked on the penalty corners.Princeton 2, Maryland 1 - final. That's 10 straight one-goal games in the series.
