Women's Hockey Team Holds Year-End Banquet

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/26/17) - The Princeton women's hockey team celebrated its season, honored the Class of 2017 and presented its yearly awards at the annual team banquet.
The Tigers went 20-10-3 this season and recorded the second-longest unbeaten streak in program history with 11-game run in which they outscored their opponents 43-14. The Tigers made the ECAC Championship for the first time since 2005-06, falling to the defending national champion. The team boasts seven wins over ranked teams, a Patty Kazmaier top-10 finalists, the USCHO.com Rookie of the Year, six All-Ivy League members and four All-ECAC members including the Goalie and Rookie of the Year.
The senior class of Molly Contini, Kelsey Koelzer, Fiona McKenna, Audrey Potts, Morgan Sly, Molly Strabley and Cassidy Tucker was recognized for its contribution to the Princeton hockey.
The Rookie of the Year Award was given to Carly Bullock. The ECAC Rookie of the Year finished her freshman campaign with 30 points on 20 goals and 10 assists. She ranked third nationally in points per game and 11th in goals per game. Bullock scored six game-winning goals this season, which ranks seventh in the nation and with six power-play goals has the seventh-most in the NCAA. She recorded a +22 on-ice rating and 23 blocks. Bullock net two hat tricks this season, her first on Jan. 1 when she scored all three goals in a 3-2 win over No. 8 Quinnipiac. The second was against another nationally-ranked squad, No. 9 Colgate. Bullock's two other three-point games also came against top-ranked opponents - when she had a goal and two assists in a 7-2 win over No. 5 Colgate on Nov. 18 and two goals and an assist in a 4-2 win at No. 3 St. Lawrence on Feb. 12. The ECAC Rookie of the Month in February, Bullock has been named the Rookie of the Week five times and Player of the Week once.
The Unsung Hero Award was presented to Cassidy Tucker. The award is given annually to the member of the women's hockey team voted by her teammates to be the team's unsung hero during the season. Tucker totaled 25 points on 13 goals and 12 assists this season and converted on both of her penalty shot attempts this season. She had at least one point in 18 games and blocked 35 shots and finished with a +12 on-ice rating. Tucker was named the ECAC Player of the Week on Dec. 13 after leading the league in scoring with a five-point weekend.
Freshman Steph Neatby was the recipient of the Elizabeth English Trophy. The English Trophy is presented annually to the member of the women's hockey team, voted by her teammates to be the most valuable player. It is named in honor of Elizabeth English '75, whose efforts helped to establish women's ice hockey at Princeton. The 2017 ECAC Goaltender of the Year, Neatby went 12-5-1 in her first season as a Tiger. She had the second-best save percentage and goals against in the nation behind Patty Kazmaier winner Ann-Renee Desbiens, with a .950 save percentage and a 1.52 GAA. A first-team all-ECAC selection, as well as a finalist for ECAC Player and Rookie of the Year, Neatby was key to Princeton's 11-game unbeaten streak after making her first career start on Nov. 26. She helped her team to the ECAC semifinals as she had a 6-2 record against ranked teams and posted four shutouts. During the season she set the Princeton record for saves in a game when she stopped 60 shots in a triple overtime quarterfinal game against Quinnipiac. She also holds the school single-season record for save percentage and GAA. She earned ECAC Goalie of the Week honors six times, Rookie of the Week honors once, was the ECAC Goalie of the Month in both December and January and was the first ever Hockey Commissioners Association National Rookie of the Month in January.
The Patty Kazmaier Award was presented to Fiona McKenna. It is given annually to the senior member of the women's hockey team who has made the greatest contribution to the program during her career and best exemplifies the following characteristics: Loyalty and devotion to Princeton Women's Hockey and determination and perseverance under adverse conditions. An assistant captain McKenna had five assists during the season and led the team in a number of charity events during the season. She organized Denna Day and ECAC Hockey Concussion Awareness with Headway Foundation.
At the conclusion of the banquet, head coach Jeff Kampersal announced the team captains for teh 2017-18 season. Leading the Tigers will be Kiersten Falck, while Stephanie Sucharda and Karlie Lund will act as assistant captains.
