Mavraides '11 Helps Capture U.S. 3-on-3 Basketball Title

Dan Mavraides '11, a 1,000-point scorer at Princeton and a starter on the 2011 Ivy League Championship team, teamed with Northwestern alum Craig Moore, Lehigh alum Zahir Carrington and Brown alum Damon Huffman to win the USA Basketball 3-on-3 tournament last weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Mavraides was named tournament MVP. Moore also has a Tiger connection, having served a season as the program's Director of Basketball Operations under Mitch Henderson after playing for Henderson and head coach Bill Carmody at Northwestern.

The team, which was backed by John Rogers '80 and his Ariel Investments firm, was one of 12 in the field and went 4-1 during the pool round and then won three elimination games to take the title. The last two wins came by three points apiece.

Mavraides and his teammates earned the chance to represent the U.S. at the FIBA 3-on-3 World Cup in Nantes, France, from June 17-21, as well as a chance to play in a professional 3-on-3 event as part of the FIBA 3-on-3 World Tour in Saskatoon, Sask., July 15-16.
