Season Recap: Princeton Reaches Eighth Straight Postseason Tournament

Signature Wins: The Tigers used a program-record 14 three-pointers to run by the UMBC Retrievers in the second half and score a 69-58 victory on Nov. 27. The Tigers' 37 attempts from long range were also a single-game record.

Using hot shooting from deep to stay in the game, Princeton's defense shut down UMBC in the final quarter. After three, UMBC was 50 percent (21-of-42) from the field, but Princeton slowed the Retrievers to 1-of-11 (9.1 percent) in the final stanza. The Tigers turned a four-point deficit to a nine-point advantage (65-56), leading to a UMBC timeout at the four-minute point of the frame. UMBC could only muster two free throws after the timeout as the Tigers finished out the victory.

Princeton broke three school records as it raced out to a 107-44 victory over the Wagner Seahawks on Dec. 21. The Tigers broke the program record for points in a game, breaking the mark set against Portland State (104) on Dec. 19th, 2014. Princeton also broke the single-game record for points in a quarter (34) and in a half with 60 during the first 20 minutes of game action. Head coach Courtney Banghart's squad was the 27th team this season to score over 100 points at the Division-I level.

Gabrielle Rush's three-pointer with 1:33 left in overtime put Princeton ahead for good as it defeated Harvard, 63-58, on Feb. 4. Rush scored a game-high and career-high 18 points including four treys. Leslie Robinson dropped in her fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds, matching a personal best. Bella Alarie had another sparkling all-around contest with 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks in the win.

Princeton, behind its two All-Ivy players, ran past the Harvard Crimson in the second half, 68-47, in the Ivy League Semifinal at the Palestra on Mar. 11. Bella Alarie recorded her seventh double-double with a game-high 17 points and career-high 16 rebounds while Leslie Robinson added 15 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, two steals and a block. Alarie's three blocks against the Crimson also tied the single-season record (50) set by Ellen Devoe during the 1984-85 season.

Notes: This was the eighth straight season that Princeton reached the postseason … The Class of 2017, Taylor Brown, Vanessa Smith and Jackie Reyneke, finished with 90 wins, one Ivy League title and four postseason tournaments … The Tigers were among the nation's best in rebounds per game (12th, 43.3), field goal percentage defense (18th, 35.6), offensive rebounds per game (30th, 15.0), scoring defense (28th, 57.2), rebound margin (31st, +6.4) and three-point field goal percentage defense (33rd, 28.3) … Robinson was second in the Ivy League in field goal percentage (48.1) and tied for third in offensive rebounds (2.7) … Alarie was fourth in the conference in blocks (1.8), fifth in defensive rebounds (5.9) and total rebounds (8.0) … Alarie had one of the greatest freshman seasons in program history as she is in the top five all-time for freshman single-season records in games played (tied for first), blocks (first), three-point attempts (109, second), three-pointers made (39, third), rebounds (241, third), points (377, fourth), field goals (fifth) and field goal attempts (322).
