Parker Dixon Earns Princeton's First AVCA National Player Of The Week Honor Since Jason Morrow '00
February 21, 2017 | Men's Volleyball
The last time Princeton claimed an AVCA National Player of the Week award, Parker Dixon was five months old.
That span was long enough.
Dixon became the second player in program history to take away the top weekly honor in men's collegiate volleyball when he was named the Division I-II Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week, which was announced Feb. 21. Dixon, who was also named the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week, averaged 4.4 kills, 4.6 points, and hitting .441 in 3-1 wins over both NJIT and reigning league champion George Mason, which helped the Tigers move into a share of first place in the EIVA. Dixon posted a career-high 22 kills and hit .515 in the victory over NJIT, and he followed up with 13 kills and hit .346 against the Patriots. After George Mason fought off one match ball in the fourth set Saturday night, senior Jonah May set his freshman teammate with a chance to clinch the win. Parker, as he did all weekend, delivered.
"I am thrilled for Parker to earn such a prestigious honor, and I thank the AVCA for recognizing him," head coach Sam Shweisky said. "He has put so much into improving himself in every area of the game, and that effort showed up in two big wins last week. Parker was called upon in several big moments last week, and he answered time and again. The most exciting thing about Parker is that he has so much potential to his game, and if he continues dedicating himself to improving, there is no limit to the player he can become."
The honor is Princeton's first since April 20, 1998, when Jason Morrow '00 earned the award after leading the Tigers past Penn State and Rutgers-Newark to win the program's only EIVA championship.
