Women's Cross Country Team Adds Six as Class of 2021

Michelle Eisenreich is proud to announce her first recruiting class as Princeton head coach of cross country and track & field. Six athletes from six states join the Tigers as the Class of 2021 in the fall to bolster an already highly-competitive distance and middle-distance corps.
"I am extremely pleased with the depth of this year's cross country and middle distance recruiting class," Eisenreich said. "This is a very talented group of women each of whom show tremendous range in their skill set. Equally as important, they have a tremendous competitive mindset which will allow them to make contributions at the Ivy Championships in all three seasons as freshmen. This group will no doubt be key in our quest for an Ivy Championship in both cross country and track and field!"
Sam is a four-time New Jersey Group Champion in the 400m and 800m. She is also the 2016 New Jersey Indoor Meet of Champions runner-up at 800m. She demonstrates tremendous ability from 400-1000m, making her a great addition to our strong middle distance crew. As a leader in her community, Sam was invited by the administration to the Strategic Planning Council Conference at Matawan High School.
Peyton has been tremendously consistent in both cross country and on the oval. She is the 2016 SPC state 3200m champion and the third-place finisher at the 2015 and 2016 SPC state cross country championship. Her lifetime best at 1500m, achieved in victory, ranks top-20 nationally in her graduating class. Peyton has received the Presidential Service Award the last three years for her dedicated commitment to community service work in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Peyton raised over $5,000 to sponsor two doctors travel to Santiago, collected 160 pairs of running shoes to support the athletic programs in Santiago, and led a construction team in building a church in the Dominican Republic.
Sophie has created great success across all event areas throughout her high school career. She is the three-time runner-up in the state cross country championships, and the 2016 state runner-up in the 1600m and 800m. Sophie ranks in the top-10 nationally at 800m and 1500m in the graduating Class of 2017. Sophie discovered her running talent following her young career as a competitive figure skater.
Melia won the 2016 Division 2 California State Cross Country Championship Melia. Her time of 17:25.60 from that championship meet, ranks as the 34th fastest performance in the 30-year history of Woodward Park. As a result of her performance at the state championships, Melia qualified for the 2016 Nike Cross Country Championships. Away from the competitive arena Melia is a proficient piano player with over 10 years of experience.
Katherine won the 2014 and 2015 Maine Class B state cross country championships, and led Greely High School to the team titles in 2014 and 2016. She is a five-sport high school varsity student-athlete competing in lacrosse, soccer, indoor track & field, and won team state titles in both basketball and cross country.As an active member of the Athletic Advisory Board at Gre High School, Katherine is focused on organizing leadership classes for team captains and initiating programs to assist fellow student-athletes in all sports. Both parents are Princeton graduates: her father, Steve Barr '85 was a varsity rower and her mother, Martha Leggat '89 played tennis.
Clare is the 2016 New England and the 2015 Massachusetts All-State champion in the 800m. In the fall of 2015, Clare was the Massachusetts Eastern Division State Cross Country champion and finished fourth at the Massachusetts All-State Cross Country Championships. Clare ranks second nationally in the 2000m steeplechase, in the Class of 2017. She is one of the more versatile student-athletes on the East coast, as she also ranks top-15 nationally at 800m in the Class of 2017. Prior to running, Clare was a competitive gymnast and played left wing in ice hockey.
