BETHLEHEM, Pa. (11/10/17) - Princeton men's cross country team is your 2017 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional champion! All five scorers earned all-Region honors for finishing in the top 25, and every single runner finished in the top 40. With a score of 57, the Tigers knocked out the rest of the competition, bettering second-place team Navy by 52 points.
This is Princeton's second NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region title, having also won in the 2010 with that squad coming on to take 12th at the NCAA Championship with top-50 finishes by Brian Leung '12 and future Olympian Donn Cabral '12 during their junior years. Overall this will be the program's 15th appearance in the NCAA Championship, and its first return as since 2013.
Sophomore Conor Lundy was Princeton's top finisher, coming in fourth overall at 30:33.5. Last year he was third and the top freshman finisher at the race to earn an at-large big to the NCAA Championships. Senior Garrett O'Toole and sophomore Gannon Willcutts went 7-8 at 30:41.4 and 30:42.3. The pair seem to build off of each other as they went 4-9 at Heps last week. Senior Noah Kauppila, the Tigers No. 1 at Heps, finished 13th overall with a time of 30:48.4. Senior Rob Stone rounded out the top five scoring with his 25th-place performance of 30:56.8. As the No. 6 and 7 runners, sophomore Viraj Deokar and senior Wolfgang Beck claimed spots 33 and 38 with times of 31:07.9 and 31:15.2.
The NCAA Championships will be held on Nov. 18 in Louisville, Ky.
