Bonafede, Sims, Thompson Named 2018 Men's Lacrosse Captains
October 23, 2017 | Men's Lacrosse
Sam Bonafede, Austin Sims and Riley Thompson have been named the captains for the 2018 Princeton men's lacrosse team.
Bonafede has primarily been a face-off specialist in his career, and he is coming off a knee injury that shortened his 2017 season. Sims and Thompson combined a year ago for 76 points, despite the fact that Sims missed one-third of the season due to injuries.
"These are the kind of young men we want leading our program," said Princeton head coach Matt Madalon. "To them, leadership comes naturally. They inspire their teammates with the way they approach every day, with how hard they work, how they carry themselves off the field and with how important Princeton Lacrosse is to them. Having their leadership is even more important on a team with so many young players."
Sims, playing just 10 games as a midfielder a year ago, had 27 goals and nine assists, including back-to-back six-goal games against Johns Hopkins and Quinnipiac, making him the first Princeton player in 20 years to do so. He is a Fairfield Prep grad.
Thompson, who has been an attackman and middie in his career and has started every game but one the last two years, is coming off a 40-point season with 18 goals and 22 assists. He is a Culver Military Academy grad from Orangeville, Ont.
Bonafede, who attended Chaminade High School on Long Island and is a native of Bayshore, has been the team's No. 1 face-off man for much of his career.
Bonafede also filmed a video during the team's recent trip to Brooklyn as part of the CityLax "Day of Lacrosse," which can be seen HERE.
