No. 13 Field Hockey Showcases Offense in 4-0 Win Over Dartmouth
September 24, 2016 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 13 Princeton field hockey team showed off its offensive firepower taking down the Dartmouth Big Green, 4-0, in each team's Ivy League opener at Bedford Field on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Tigers took 33 shots in the game and forced Dartmouth's goalie Emma Plumb to make 15 saves in the victory. Senior Cat Caro tied her career high with two goals and was one of 13 players to take a shot. Sophomore Jane Donio-Enscoe had her first tally of the season and took six shots on goal to lead Princeton. Freshman Carlotta von Gierke registered her first career points with three assists.
Â
Princeton's offensive fireworks got started in the fifth minute as Caro's shot was stopped by Plumb. Over the next three minutes, Princeton blasted six shots, but couldn't get one past the goalie. In the 10th minute, freshman Carlotta von Gierke stole the ball and dished it off to Caro, who got by a defender and knocked in a backhanded shot to make it 1-0. Just two minutes later, junior Ryan McCarthy struck on a direct shot off a corner.
Â
The home team continued its offensive push as Donio-Enscoe batted a shot by von Gierke in the back of the net with 13 minutes to go in the first half. The Tigers outshot the Big Green, 17-0 in the first half and led 3-0 at intermission.
Â
It took just three minutes into the second stanza for Princeton to secure another goal…
Â
Â
Head coach Carla Tagliente's squad will have a quick turnaround as it travels to American tomorrow at 2 p.m. The Tigers' next home game will be October 2nd vs. No. 2 Duke.
