Princeton's men's basketball team began and ended a day in Florence for the only time on the trip, a day that began with a visit to one of the most famous sculptures in the world and ended with a food staple of the Tuscan city.
Elsewhere in Italy, Wednesday began with an earthquake that hit the central portion of the country and caused serious damage to a mountainous area to the east of the A1 motorway the team used to travel Tuesday from Rome to Florence. The Princeton contingent awoke to news of the earthquake, though fortunately not the earthquake itself as Florence was outside the area directly affected.
The Galleria dell'Accademia welcomed Princeton's travel party for a morning tour through the museum, highlighted by Michelangelo's 17-foot-tall David. Once out of the Galleria, the team continued on a walking tour of Florence, ending at the edge of the Arno River that runs through the city.Â
After a few hours of free time, the team reconvened for an afternoon practice, the team's last before Friday's game against Fortitudo Bologna.Â
Wednesday closed with a team dinner with Florentine steak as the main course on the team's final night in the city.
Thursday, the Tigers will head north to Bologna with a detour to check out some fast cars along the way.
