Koelzer Named to USA Hockey U22 Team

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (8/14/16) -Â Rising senior Kelsey Koelzer of the Princeton women's hockey team has been named to the 2016 U.S. Women's Under-22 Select Team it was announced by USA Hockey on Sunday, Aug. 14.
The team will compete in a three-game series against Canada from August 17-20 at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta.
The 22 players selected were chosen after the 2016 USA Hockey Women's National Festival held Aug. 17-20 in Lake Placid, in which 95 players took part. The U.S. Women's Under-22 Select Team will train together until August 14 before heading to Calgary.
Koelzer is one of six defenders named to the team. A first-team All-America selection and Patty Kazmaier top-10 finalist, Koelzer was the ECAC Defender of the Year and the Ivy League Player of the Year in 2016. The top draft pick in the 2016 NWHL Draft, Koelzer was named first-team all-ECAC and all-Ivy League, while ranking second in the country amongst scoring defender averaging 1.00 point per game. She had 33 points on 17 goals, 13 assists, 60 blocks and was a member of special teams.
The three-game series vs. Canada is an annual event between the two countries held 12 times since 1999. The Princeton program has had 10 players play for USA hockey select, national and Olympic teams - most notably Andrea Kilbourne '03 who won a silver medal at the 2003 Olympic Games. Current head coach Jeff Kampersal was the head coach of the Under-18 team for two years.
