Barowski Advances at Olympic Trials
July 01, 2016 | Women's Cross Country, Women's Track and Field
"I'll be back. For revenge." Barowski had muttered, looking out the window, as the car pulled away from Historic Hayward Field last month. It was just a couple of hours after she finished fifth at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, a place Barowski wasn't herself completely satisfied with as her finish was her only loss of the 2015-16 season, including winning the semifinals two days prior.
It was an incredible race and a must see:

Barowski raced in the fourth of five heats with the top two out of each advancing, plus the next six fastest times. In her heat was Dartmouth alum Megan Krumpuch, though it was Nike's Laura Roesler that was and Chrishuna Williams that were the two that were favored. Barowski was third at the bell and then a pack of six collected along the back stretch with Williams and Roesler in front, Barowski behind and Krumpoch and Kenyette Iyevbele and Oklahoma State's Kaela Edwards all made a move at the same time moving up on the outside nearly boxing Barowski in as they rounded the third turn of the final lap. Barowski sensing the box squeezed between Williams and Krumpoch then turned on another gear as they rounded the Bowerman curve as she took to the outside and it became a four-person race. Roesler, Williams, Edwards and Barowski. Roesler started to drop back with 50m left, and it Williams took the win at 2:03.19. Would it be Edwards or Barowski taking that coveted second spot? The announcer thought Edwards, the chip proved him wrong as the scoreboard showed Barowski leaning in for second 2:03.29 to 2:03.31.
It is a quick turnaround at the trials as the semifinals will be first round, semifinals and finals will all be held on back-to-back-to-back days. The 16-person semifinal is set to begin at 11 a.m. PT on Saturday. The top eight will advance to Sunday's final.
Jasmine Blocker '15 did not advance the 400 meter first round. She was in heat 4 along with the favorite, six-time Olympic medalist Alyson Felix. Blocker who was seventh at the 400 at the NCAA Championships this past outdoor season as she ocmpleted her eligibility at Tulane was eighth at 54.54 while Felix was second at 51.96 and Quanera Hayes was first at 51.80.
Three Tigers will compete tomorrow afternoon: Adam Bragg '16 in the pole vault qualifiers, Liz Costello '10 in the 10k final and Barowski in the 800 semifinal.
