Princeton Opens 2016-17 Ivy Season With Tri-Meet At Cornell
November 17, 2016 | Women's Swimming and Diving
After a dominant performance at its own Big Al Open last weekend, the Princeton women's swimming and diving team will open its 2016-17 Ivy League season this weekend with a tri-meet in Ithaca, N.Y. Teague Pool will serve as the host as Princeton takes on both Cornell and Penn on its first step of the Ivy season.
The meet will take place over two sessions, and it begins Friday at 5 pm with the diving events. The swimming portion will occur at 11 am Saturday, and the men's meet will take the same format over Saturday and Sunday.
Princeton takes the momentum of strong performances up and down its roster last weekend, especially from an exciting group of freshmen. Three were individual winners last weekend, including Christie Chong (pictured), who won the 200 IM in 2:04.24. Classmates Gianna Garcia (100 fly, 56.02) and Shaelyn Choi (100 breast, 1:05.54) also picked up their first DeNunzio Pool wins.
Sophomore Monica McGrath has also impressed early this season. After winning the 1000 in the season opener at Miami (10:15.27), she won the 500 at Big Al in 4:55.22.
