Seifert Records Five-Point Night as Princeton Tops Seton Hall, 3-1
October 05, 2016 | Men's Soccer
Senior Greg Seifert had a career night, factoring into each Princeton goal as the men's soccer team rolled to a 3-1 win on Wednesday night over Seton Hall. Playing nearly his entire career on defense, Seifert has been one of the Tigers' top scoring threats this season after being moved to the forward position during the third game of the season.
Tonight he scored the first two goals and assisted on the third as Princeton came from a 1-0 halftime deficit to earn the win over the Jersey rival.
Seton Hall got on the board in just the third minute when Mario Prata was able to head in a cross by Jonathan Jimenez. It was an even first period with each team taking seven shots and putting one on target.
It was sophomore Sean McSherry that allowed Seifert to take his first strike after he was thrown down in the box, immediately giving way to the official signaling a penalty kick. Seifert faked his shot right and then aimed the ball left to convert on the Tigers' first penalty kick opportunity of the season.
The goal in the 48th minute energized the Tigers after the deflation in the opening few minutes of the game and they kept at it.
In the 56th minute Seifert added his second goal when he took a free kick from 25 yards out that hit the right post and went into the twine for the goal.
Seifert helped to set up sophomore Will Lentz' first career goal in the 85th minute. Seifert pushed the ball up the left flank and crossed to the right side for Lentz. He made a nice move to deke his defender and then slotted the ball between two defenders and past keeper Julian Spindler.
Senior Josh Haberman earned his fifth win of the season in net, only facing one shot on goal thanks to the stingy Princeton defense.
The Tigers, now 5-3-1 on the season, host Brown on Saturday, Oct. 8 in an Ivy League battle on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium at 4 p.m., in a doubleheader with the women's program.
