CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (10/24/15) - Three different goal scorers gave Princeton its first Ivy League win of the season as the Tigers defeated Harvard 3-2 on Saturday night.
Freshman Jeremy Colvin had a goal and an assist, while sophomore Daniel Bowkett and senior Thomas Sanner each scored once. Senior Ben Hummel made saves as the Tigers handed the Crimson its first league loss of the season.
Princeton never trailed in the game and took the lead in the 8th minutes. Colvin had the solo goal as he received the ball near the 40 yard line on the right side and dribbled by three defenders before punching the ball past Evan Mendez.
Harvard knotted the game at 1-1 an a penalty kick in the 18th minute. Hummel was called for the foul after he came out for the ball. Christian Sady was after it as well and took a high kick on the ball. Hummel put his hands up as he was running on and was called for a violation at the top of the 18 - after the officiating crew conversed. Jake Freeman converted on the opportunity going to the right of Hummel.
Bowkett tallied his second goal of the season to regain the lead for Princeton before the close of the first half. He headed in a cross from junior Vikram Pothuri in the 40th.
Sanner expanded the lead just 1:12 into the second half. Junior Mark Romanowski had a restart in front of the Princeton bench and lofted the ball into the attacking third where Colvin headed it towards goal and Sanner scored it.
Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu had a last ditch effort for Harvard in the 89th, finishing a cross from Tyler Savitsky, but that's all the Crimson would get.
Harvard had a 19-7 edge in shots, but Princeton had better accuracy with a 6-4 shots on goal differential.
Mendez made three saves for Havard as the Crimson fall to 6-5-2 overall and 3-1 in the league.
