Cambridge, Mass. - Boston University's Holly Wiles scored four minutes into overtime to lift 19th-ranked Boston University to a 2-1 overtime win over the Princeton field hockey team Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Paige Schmidt scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the loss.
Schmidt began the scoring in the game when her blast off a penalty corner beat BU goalkeeper Erin Prediger 15 minutes into the game. Senior Hillary Schmidt assisted on the goal.
The Tigers would hold the lead for the next 12 minutes until Lauren Alfaro tucked a loose ball inside the right post to even the score at 1-1. From that point, the score remained even through the end of regulation.
Wiles ended the game just 3:56 into the extra session when Pam Spuehler fed a pass across the cage that she was able to knock in to lift the Terriers to the win.
Shots were even in the game, with each team taking 12. Princeton led in penalty corners 7-5. Princeton goalkeeper Allison Nemeth made five saves in the loss, while Prediger made three.
Princeton is now 6-8 on the season and remains 5-0 in Ivy action. The Tigers visit Harvard next Saturday at noon.
