DAY ONE: RESULTS
DAY TWO: LIVE RESULTS l LIVE VIDEO
Despite a 50 free victory from junior Lisa Boyce, the Princeton women's swimming and diving team will need a major rally Saturday afternoon to sweep the annual H-Y-P weekend. The Crimson won six of eight events Friday and set five program records to grab leads over both Princeton and Yale. The Tigers, who came into the weekend undefeated, hold a substantial lead over the Bulldogs midway through the competition.
Princeton will go into the noon session Saturday trailing Harvard 107-43 and leading Yale 97-53. Harvard holds a 115-35 lead over Yale.
Boyce's victory in the 50 came in a dramatic showdown between a trio of upperclassmen. The four-time individual Ivy League champion won in 22.44, while Harvard junior Sara Li took second in 22.52 and Yale senior Alex Forrester finished third in 22.98.
There would be other strong swims by Princeton throughout the night, though none would end up touching the wall first. One of the most exciting finishes came in the 200 free, as Harvard freshman Danielle Lee edged Princeton senior Jillian Altenburger by .03 of a second to win in 1:47.68.
Harvard opened the night with a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay, while the Princeton quartet of Boyce, Sarah Furgatch, Nikki Larson and Morgan Karetnick took third in 1:42.99. Princeton junior Maureen McCotter was the top Tiger finisher in the 500 (10:19.77), while freshman Sada Stewart earned a second-place finish in the 100 back. Her time of 54.46 finished behind only Kendall Crawford of Harvard, while Tiger sophomore Shirley Wang took fourth in 56.02.
The Princeton sophomore duo of Cara Slear (1:04.04) and Emily Yu (1:04.22) finished 3-4 in the 100 breast, while the duo of freshman Beverly Nguyen (2:01.08) and senior co-captain Kathy Qu (2:01.11) went 3-4 in the 200 fly.
The other Princeton co-captain, Carter Stephens, picked up a sixth-place finish in the 50 free (23.70), while junior Laura Slater took fifth in 23.65.
Princeton's top finisher in the 3-meter diving competition was freshman Helen Zitkovsky, who placed fifth with 242.35. Junior Randi Brown added an eighth-place finish with 234.85 points.
