The upcoming National Women's Soccer League announced its allocation Jan. 11 for the national-team players from the U.S., Canada and Mexico to the eight teams in the league that will premiere this spring.
Canadian national teamer Diana Matheson '08, among the top players in Princeton program history, has been allocated to the Washington Spirit franchise that will play its home games in Germantown, Md., northwest of the nation's capital.
This past summer, Matheson etched her place in Canadian women's soccer history by scoring the game-winning goal in the closing moments of the Olympic bronze medal game against France, helping the Canadians take a medal back across the Atlantic.
During her days at Princeton, Matheson helped the Tigers to the 2004 College Cup semifinal as a freshman, earning All-America honors. Matheson is the Princeton career leader in assists, with 26, and finished her career fourth in career points, with 78, and goals, with 26.
