A year ago Navy stunned Princeton with a 65-52 victory in Annapolis. That loss has lingered with the Tiger women's basketball team and Tuesday night they avenged their defeat with a statement 70-50 victory over the Midshipmen to conclude the non-conference slate. The win improved Princeton to 9-5 on the year, including going a perfect 6-0 at home and defeating all opponents by double figures in Jadwin Gym.

Niveen Rasheed recorded her fifth double-double of the year, tallying game-highs in points with 18 and rebounds with 11. She was 8-for-15 from the field, while matching a career-high with six steals and dishing four assists. Rasheed's 18 points improved her career points total to 1,370, moving her up to fifth all-time in Princeton history.

Navy opened with the momentum, holding as high as a five-point advantage twice heading into the midpoint of the half. Down 19-14, consecutive triples from sophomore Blake Dietrick put Princeton up 20-19 at 10:01. The Tigers' managed to preserve their advantage for the remainder of the 40-minute contest.

Dietrick started her fourth consecutive game, finishing with 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal in 40 minutes of work. She had three triples in the game, nearly matching her career-high of four.

Princeton cruised to a double figure advantage before halftime, 36-26, but the second half saw Navy challenge the Tigers.

Princeton's lead expanded as high as 15, 43-28, at 17:21, before the Midshipmen rattled off an 11-3 run to come as close as seven, 46-39, with 14:14 to play.

The Tigers responded and reestablished a double figure differential, but their momentum swing was not enough as Navy again put together a scoring rally to make it a five-point game, 53-48, with less than nine to play.

Princeton was not going to suffer consecutive defeats to the Mids and the Tigers concluded the game riding a 17-2 run to cap off the preseason.

Kristen Helmstetter had 14 points, going 6-for-7 from the field, while notching six boards and an assist. One of only three bench players to see minutes, freshman Michelle Miller also finished the game in double figures with 11 points (4-for-8), including a pair of three-pointers.

The Tigers shot 48.3 percent (28-for-58) from the field, while holding Navy to 37 percent (20-for-54). Princeton held differentials in rebounds (42-32), assists (14-8), steals (11-6) and blocks (1-0).

Princeton now preps for its Ancient Eight rivals, beginning with Penn on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 3:30 p.m. at home. The game will be a basketball doubleheader, with the men facing the Quakers at 6 p.m.
