PRINCETON, N.J. (4/22/12) - It was another successful weekend for the Princeton men's track & field team as the Tigers hosted the Larry Ellis Invitational at Weaver Stadium on April 20-21.
Sophomore Damon McLean won the long jump as he reached 7.38
(24-.250) on his second attempt.
Sophomore Tom Hopkins would once again score high marks on
the track and the field. Hopkins was the runner-up to McLean in the long jump
with a jump of 7.32 (24-00.25) on his second attempt. The two of them were the
only two in the event to clear 24 feet.
Hopkins was the runner-up in the 200 running a PR of 21.29.
Freshman William Egi clocked in a 21.89 to take 11th.
Hopkins, Egi along with senior Ivan Charbonneau and freshman
Daniel McCord made up the 4x100 that finished third. The relay ran its best
time of the season at 41.21 to finish ahead of 14 other squads. Princeton's B
squad also faired well in the 4x100. Freshman Tommaso Greenbaum, junior
Sebastian Steffen, sophomore Shane Molidor and senior Ricky Kearney ran 41.98
to finish seventh.
Freshman Adam Bragg was the runner-up in the pole vault has
reached a new PR. Brag vaulted to 5.06 (16-7.25) on his second attempt at the
height, more than four inches better than his previous best. Senior Derek Hynes
reached 4.80 (15-9) to finish in sixth place.
Princeton had three others finish in the top-10 in the field
events. Sophomore Omar Jarrett was fifth in the high jump as he jumped to 1.95
(6-4.75) on his second attempt of the afternoon. Senior Garner McCloud reached
14.48 (47-6.25) on his fifth attempt of the triple jump to finish in seventh
place.
In the throws, senior Patrick Park launched the shot put to
16.21 (53-2.25) on his third throw to finish ninth overall. Sophomore Conor McCullough tried his hand at the discus, an event he typically does not
compete, and finished in 12th place with a throw of 47.34 (155-04).
Back on the track, junior Russell Dinkins ran 47.25 to finish
fourth out of 28 in the 400. Freshman Rob Mohr was fifth in the 110-meter
hurdles as he clocked in at 14.69.
The prestigious Penn Relays is up next for the Tigers, April
26-28 at Franklin Field.
Day 1 Recap
The Princeton men's track & field won two events to open
the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday, April 20 at Weaver Stadium.
Sophomore Chris Bendtsen won the 5000 with a PR of 13:57.51,
shaving 7.23 seconds off his previous best time. He was one of just two in the
race of 100 runners to finish the event under 14 minutes. Sophomore Alejandro Arroyo Yamin also ran a PR improving on his previous best by more than nine
seconds, as he clocked in at 14:02.08 for fifth place. In ninth place was senior
Brian Leung who also ran a PR of 14:09.82.
Senior Donn Cabral was the champion in the 1500 running a PR
of 3:42.83, approximately four seconds better than his previous best time.
Senior Trevor Van Ackeren ran 3:46.19 to finish in seventh place.
Freshman Connor Martin improved on his steeplechase time by
nearly 14 seconds as he finished in 8:57.61 to take 11th.
Sophomore Michael Williams had the best time for the Tigers
in the 800 clocking in at 1:52.23.
Day 2 begins at Weaver Stadium tomorrow, April 21 at noon with the 4x100, shot put and long jump. Follow the live results here.
