PRINCETON -- Sophomore Yohei Shoji and freshman Matt Siow won the "B" doubles title at the Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational Sunday, capping three days of competition at the Lenz Tennis Center between players from nine schools.
The Princeton duo won four doubles matches in three days to claim the title. In singles play, sophomore Coleman Crutchfield bounced back from a loss in his first match to win the "D" bracket consolation title with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Penn State's Guanhua Chen.
Among other Princeton notes, the Farnsworth saw the first competition for two more freshmen, Matt Spindler and Matija Pecotic. Spindler won his first three matches to advance to the finals of the "C" bracket before finishing runner-up, and Pecotic went 2-2 in a tough "A" flight. Among returning players, Parker Preyer advanced to the consolation finals in the "E" flight, and Charlie Brosens succumbed to a shoulder injury in the "C" flight semifinals.
The tournament was Princeton's only home event of the fall. Next on Princeton's schedule is the USTA invitational next weekend in Flushing, N.Y.
