Ruggiero Sets School Record as Women's Track & Field Wins HYP

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/13/10) - The Princeton women's track and field team won the annual HYP meet on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Jadwin Gym, its third title in five years and the most points its earned during those five years with 90.50.

Harvard was second with 47.50 points and Yale third with 21.

Emma Ruggiero set a Princeton record in the weight throw, when she threw to 17.63 meters. Her previous best, which was also the school best was 17.21, which she threw in the first meet of the season.

One meet record was set and it came from Princeton's Eileen Moran in the 60-meter dash. Moran clocked in at 7.65 improving about Joslyn Woodward of Yale's mark of 7.68 in 2004. Moran also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.13.

Abidemi Adenikinju was second in the 60 at 7.78 followed by Erin Guty in third place at 7.81. Adenikinju also earned the team points with a fourth-place finish in the 200 at 26.00, while Guty won the long jump reaching 5.72 meters.

Reilly Kiernan and Alex Banfich both reached NCAA Provisional qualifying times in the 3000-meter run. Kiernan won the event at 9:27.20 and Banfich was second at 9:27.36. Alexa Glencer was third with a time of 9:35.10, missing out on the qualifying time by just 0.10 of a second.

Danielle Glaeser also picked up a victory on the track, winning the 500 in a time of 57.04.

Tory Worthen picked up yet another win the pole vault, clearing 4.00 meters. This is the second time she has reached the NCAA Provisional mark of 4.00 meters this season. Teammates Lydia Arias and Lauren Tauscher followed with matching clearances of 3.60, which is a personal best for Tauscher.

Thanithia Billings took top honors in the shot put throwing to 14.75 meters, beating the second place thrower from Harvard by 1.35 meters. It also marked a new personal best by Billings who threw to 14.69 in the first meet of the season. She went on to place second in the weight throw reaching 16.00.

The Tigers won both relay events. Joie Hand, Glaeser, Melissa Zajdel and Moran finished the 4x400 in 3:51.50. Greta Feldman, Alexis Mikaelian, Michelle Yousefian and Ashley Higginson took first in the 4x800 at 9:03.46, cruising passed the second-place competition from Harvard that finished in 9:12.11.

Also contributing team points: Alyssa Pehmoeller (weight throw), Tiffany Liu (long jump, triple jump), Bianca Williams (triple jump), KC Wade (high jump), Lauren Barber (60 hurdles), Bianca Mathabane (60 hurdles), Ashley Higginson (mile), Alex Banfich (mile), Greta Feldman (800).
