PRINCETON, N.J. (5/2/09) – Three members of the Princeton women’s track and field team qualified for the NCAA Regional after the Elite Meet held on Saturday, May 2 at Weaver Track and Field Stadium.
Sophomore Emma Ruggiero qualified for in the hammer throw, throwing beyond the 54.15 meter requirement. She reached 54.63 meters, setting a personal record. Ruggiero went on the set another personal best in the discus, throwing to 37.34 meters.
Junior Liz Costello and sophomore Ashley Higginson qualified for the NCAA Regional in the 1500-meter run. Costello won the event in a time of 4:23.75, surpassing the standard by almost four seconds. Higginson was second at 4:26.37. This is the third event Higginson has qualified for this season. She will also be competing in the 5000 and the steeplechase.
Also setting a personal record in the hammer was freshman Alyssa Pehmoeller who threw to 46.82 meters.
Freshman Lydia Arias matched her personal best with a pole vault at 3.66 meters. She finished second in the event to teammate Jessica Kloss’ 3.76-meter vault.
Nine other Tigers hit season-best marks at the meet, including: Lauren Barber in the triple jump, Thanithia Billings in the shot put, Jessica Johnson in the 400, Michelle Yousefian in the 800, Melissa Tassone in the 100-meter hurdles, Liz Deir in the steeplechase and Alex Banfich, Alexe Smith and Brooke Russell in the 1500-meter run.
Princeton will compete at the Ivy League Heptagonal on May 9-10 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
