NEW HAVEN, Conn. (4/12/09) – The Princeton women’s track and field team won the P-Y-P meet on Saturday, April 11 at Yale University. The Tigers earned 88 points, just sneaking by second-place Penn with 84 points. Yale scored 25 points.

Sophomore Ashley Higginson qualified for the NCAA Regional for the second time this season, this time in the steeplechase. Higginson finished in 10:37.43 beating the qualifying time by nearly 13 seconds to five Princeton five points towards the team score.

Senior Jessica Kloss captured first place in the pole vault, clearing 3.65 meters. Freshman Lydia Arias reached 3.35 meters for third place.

Sophomores KC Wade and Bianca Williams both finished second in their respective events, the high jump and triple jump. Wade reached 1.60 meters and Williams 11.48 meters.

Senior Emma Giunipero won the discus with a throw of 40.58 meters, while sophomore Emma Ruggiero grabbed first in the hammer throw with a toss of 50.21 meters.  Ruggiero went on to place third in the javelin, in her first try of the season, throwing to 25.92 meters.

Sophomore Thanithia Billings finished in first place in the shot put going 13.13 meters.

The team also picked up five points, winning the 4x100 relay and three points with a second-place finish in the 4x400.

In the 1500-meter run, freshman Alex Banfich was first with a time of 4:37.78 with sophomore Brooke Russell taking third at 4:41.25.

Sophomore Lauren Barber was second in the 100-meter hurdles, cruising to a 14.84 finished, while classmate Katherine Siciro was third in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:06.58.

Senior Agatha Offorjebe won the 200-meter dash in 25.70 and placed second in the 400, crossing the tape in 57.89.

Freshman Eileen Moran won the 100 in 12.40, while sophomore Libby Bliss was third in the 800 with a time of 2:14.86.

Junior Reilly Kiernan and sophomore Sarah Cummings went 2-3 in the 3000, with times of 9:49.07 and 9:56.54.

The Tigers host the Larry Ellis Invitational this weekend, April 17-18 at Weaver Stadium.
