CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (2/14/09) – The Princeton women’s track and field team finished second in the annual H-Y-P meet at Gordon Track Center in Cambridge, Mass., on Saturday, Feb. 14. The Tigers scored 59 points, while Harvard won the meet with 77 points and Yale collected 23 for third place.
Freshman Eileen Moran took second in the 60-meter dash, just missing first place by three hundredths of a second, crossing the tape at 7.76. Classmate Danielle Glaser also took home the silver when she finished the 400-meter dash in 57.40.
Senior Agatha Offorjebe won the 200-meter dash in her first attempt at the event this season, putting up a time of 25.28. Moran claimed third place in the event with a time of 25.50.
The Tigers earned first and second places in the mile, with junior Liz Costello taking top honors with a 5:01.99. Sophomore Ashley Higginson finished behind her at 5:02.46.
Sophomore Sarah Cummings took second in the 3000-meter run cruising in at 9:31.20, to make NCAA provisional qualifying time. Junior Reilly Kiernan followed up with a third-place time of 9:35.48.
Freshman Lydia Arias won the pole vault reaching a height of 3.35 meters, while on the ground sophomores Bianca Williams and Lauren Barber both medaled in the triple jump. Williams took second and Barber third, with a length of 11.34 meters, just three hundredths of a meter away from the top finish.
The Princeton sophomores won both throwing events to close out the meet. Thanithia Billings had her best throw of the season in the shot put, going as far as 14.45 meters. Emma Ruggiero recorded the best throw for Princeton this season when she flung the weight to 15.03 meters.
In addition, both of Princeton’s relay teams earned second-place finishes to Harvard.
