PRINCETON (9/26/09) -- A pair of goals 12 minutes into the second half helped the seventh-ranked Princeton field hockey team break open a close game in an eventual 5-2 win over Yale on Saturday afternoon at Class of '52 Stadium. Sophomore Katie Reinprecht scored three goals and added an assist in win.

Princeton opened the scoring in the game's seventh minute when Reinprecht scored on a shot following a corner that deflected off of a Yale defender and into the goal. Sophomore Kathleen Sharkey passed Reinprecht the ball from the top of the circle and Reinprecht's goal came from the left side. The goal was the only score of the opening half despite 12 shots from Princeton and five from Yale. Senior Tina Reinprecht came closest to scoring when she lifted a shot over the Yale goalkeeper but Erica Cullum was able to knock the shot away to keep her team within one.

Yale pressured Princeton late in the first half and early in the second half, earning six corners and taking nine shots in the final five minutes of the first half and the opening five minutes of the second half.

Princeton countered and was able to break through in the 47th minute when Sharkey scored her ninth goal of the season. Following a corner, the Tigers had multiple chances in the circle before a shot from senior Kaitlyn Perrelle was blocked, sending the ball directly to Sharkey, who quickly put it in the cage.

The Tigers made the score 3-0 exactly one minute later on sophomore Rachel Neufeld's second goal of the season. In transition, Reinprecht played the ball ahead and led Neufeld into the circle. Yale goalkeeper Katie Bolling came out to challenge, but Neufeld was able to slide it by her for the goal.

Princeton and Yale then traded goals over the final 13 minutes of play. Reinprecht, who had four goals in last season's win over Yale, netted her second of the game in the 58th minute with a shot to the far corner. Yale countered in 61st minute when Erin Carter scored on a penalty stroke. Reinprecht then scored her third of the game and seventh of the year in the final minute that was very similar to her second goal and Yale completed the scoring with no time left on the clock as Julia Weiser scored on a direct corner.

Princeton junior goalkeeper Jennifer King made five saves in the win, while Bolling made 12 saves in the loss. Princeton outshot Yale 25-13 and outcornered Yale 14-9.

The win moved Princeton to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Ivy League, while Yale fell to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the league. Princeton continues its schedule next Friday night at home against Columbia.
