Jeff Froccaro more than doubled the previous record for goals in the first two games by a Princeton freshman. By the middle of the third game, Mike Chanenchuk had tied him for the team freshman lead.

Chanenchuk scored five goals, on his first five shots, to lead Princeton to a 13-8 win over Manhattan on a perfect Tuesday afternoon at Gaelic Park. The game was the first in New York City for Princeton since 1925.

The win improved Princeton, ranked fifth by the media and sixth by the coaches, to 3-0 on the young season. The Tigers, who defeated Manhattan a year ago in the first meeting between the schools, host UMBC Saturday at 1 at Class of 1952 Stadium.

The Tigers led 7-2 at halftime and 12-4 seven seconds into the fourth quarter. Princeton coach Chris Bates played every healthy player on the roster.

"Mike shot the ball very well," Bates said. "When you score five like that, you're doing something right."

Princeton opened it season with wins over Hofstra at home and Johns Hopkins in overtime this past Saturday in front of nealry 20,000 fans at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. This time, Princeton played in front of 482 fans, many of whom came from the nearby Fieldston School, the alma mater of Tiger freshman Forest Sonnenfeldt, who scored his first career goal.

In fact, besides Chanenchuk, no Princeton player scored more than one goal in the game. In addition to Sonnenfeldt, freshman Tucker Shanley and junior longstick midfielder Derek Styer had their first career goals.

But the day belonged to Chanenchuk, who scored three in the first and one more in the second and third before leaving for the day.

Froccaro, the Ivy League Rookie of the Week each of the first two weeks and Inside Lacrosse's top-ranked freshman to date, had three goals against Hofstra and four against Hopkins, giving him a school record seven in his first two games as a freshman. Chanenchuk had two in his first two games, but his five tied him with Froccaro - until Froccaro scored his eighth four minutes later.

Jack McBride, Chris McBride Tyler Moni and Paul Barnes also had one for Princeton, while Rob Engelke had two more assists to match his previous career total of nine in just his first three games this year. Scott MacKenzie, who scored the game-winner against Hopkins in OT, had an assist.

Tyler Fiorito played the first 49 minutes in goal and made eight saves while allowing four goals. Christian Blake and Yuri Larrabee each played in goal as well.

Manhattan was led by Justin Jensen's three goals and Brett Miranda's two.

Princeton outshot Manhattan 40-23 and won 15 of 23 face-offs, including 5 of 6 from freshman bobby Lucas, 4 of 7 from Froccaro and 5 of 8 from Peter Smyth. Long Ellis had three caused turnovers for the Tigers.
