Princeton and Stony Brook will be the sites for the 2010 men’s lacrosse quarterfinals, the NCAA has announced. The doubleheaders will be on May 22 and May 23, and the specific date for each site has not yet been announced.

“We are excited that these institutions have agreed to host the NCAA men’s lacrosse quarterfinals,” said Sharon Cessna, NCAA director of championships.  “With their proven track record for putting on such great events, we are excited for a great lacrosse weekend in both Stony Brook, New York and Princeton, New Jersey.”

Princeton’s track record for this event is all as a host and non-existent as a participant. Princeton Stadium was selected as a site in 1999, 2005 and 2007, and Princeton did not reach the quarterfinals in any of those three years.

In fact, Princeton has reached the quarterfinals 16 times in the last 20 years, leaving the program 16 for 17 in years that Princeton Stadium did not host and 0 for 3 when it did.

Princeton reached the quarterfinals this past spring before falling to Cornell at Hofstra. The 2010 Tigers will return two starters on attack, one starter in the midfield, two on defense and the goalie, and three of those six returnees (G Tyler Fiorito, D Chad Wiedmaier, A Jack McBride) were All-Americas.

The 2010 Tigers will be led by Chris Bates, who took over as head coach when Bill Tierney left after 22 seasons to become the head coach at Denver.
