ITHACA, N.Y. (3/1/14) - Princeton had three different players score in a 5-3 loss to No. 6 Cornell in Game 2 of the ECAC Quarterfinal series. With Cornell's 3-2 come-from-behind victory yesterday, the Big Red win the series 2-0, and end Princeton's season.

Princeton took the lead for the second straight game but Cornell responded with three goals to gain the lead. The Tigers cut it to one on two occassions and battled for the game-tying goal with an extra-attacker but an empty-net goal for Cornell sealed the win for the Big Red.

Senior Sally Butler tallied the opening goal just 5:01 into the game with help from junior Brianna Leahy and senior Denna Laing. Leahy got the puck deep and sent around the back of the net to Laing. Laing sent the puck into traffic in front of the net and Butler was on the doorstep to send it home.

Cornell scored twice in the second half with goals from Morgan Richardson and Taylor Woods. Richardson scored at 2:19 when she ripped a shot from the center point that went over the shoulder of Princeton netminder Kimberly Newell. It took 15 more minutes before the Big Red took their first lead of the game. Admist a scramble out in front it was Woods that was able to get the final stick on the puck and roofed the shot for the goal.

Jessica Campbell made it 3-1 at 2:19 of the third. A battle for the puck along the boards was poked free and back to Campbell. She ripped a shot right point that went over the glove shoulder of Newell.

Thirty-nine seconds later, Laing cut the deficit to 3-2 with an unassisted tally. Sydney Smith turned the puck over right on the doorstep and Laing capitalized with a shot over the glove of Paula Voorheis.

An unlucky bounce for the Tigers led to Cornell's fourth goal at 7:37. As Princeton tried to whip the puck around the boards it didn’t get to its intended recipient but popped out too early and to the stick of Jillian Saulnier who ripped a shot for the goal.

Freshman Cassidy Tucker's seventh goal of the season made it 4-3 at 16:25. Senior Rose Alleva had a heavy hand in the goal as she backhanded a shot that deflected off the skate of Tucker and between the pads of Voorheis. Freshman Molly Strabley got the puck to Alleva for the secondary assist.

Princeton tried to get the equalzier but an empty-net goal by Saulnier with 53.8 seconds reamining capped the game.

Newell made 29 saves in goal for the Tigers, while Voorheis stopped 18 shots for Cornell which advances to the ECAC semifinals.

Princeton competes the 2013-14 season with a 14-13-4 overall record.
