PRINCETON, N.J. (3/6/13) – Freshman Julia Ratcliffe crushed the Ivy League record in the hammer throw with the third-best throw in the nation to highlight the final day of the 2013 Sam Howell Memorial Invitational at Weaver Stadium.

Ratcliffe threw the hammer to 66.69 (218-09), nearly three meters better than her personal best that set the Ivy Record last month in Florida. Prior to Ratcliffe’s arrival at Old Nassau the Ivy record was 61.85. Her throw is the best in the East and third-best in the NCAA, behind two senior veterans. All four of Ratcliffe’s counted throws were over 63 meters. The next best toss in the event was 57.07.

Another freshman thrower, Brielle Rowe, had a PR in the discus. Rowe finished in third place with a throw of 44.26 (145-02) on her final attempt.

Junior Imani Oliver won the triple jump at 12.32 (40-5), reaching the mark on her first jump. Four of her six jumps would have won her the event.

Senior Lauren Tauscher was the runner-up in the pole vault. She cleared 3.70 (12-1.50) on her second attempt.

In the high jump freshman Taylor Morgan placed third clearing 1.65 (5-5).

Senior Mel Newbery won the 1500 at 4:31.74, besting 24 other runners.

The Tigers went 2-3-4-5 in the 800, the first four spots taken by collegians.  Sophomore Cecilia Barowski clocked 2:08.59 followed by junior Kacie O’Neil at 2:09.93, junior Molly Higgins a PR of 2:10.25, and junior Kristin Smoot at 2:11.22.

In the hurdles, senior Joie Hand took fourth place in the 400 hurdles at 1:01.82. Junior Beth McKenna was the top Tiger in the 100 hurdles, as she ran a PR of 15.00.

The 4x400 relay of Barowski, Feldman, Hand and sophomore Kim Mackay finished second. The relay ran 3:47.80, behind a meet record effort of St. John’s at 3:45.50.

Senior Abidemi Adenikinju, sophomore Joanna Anyanwu, sophomore Emily Easton and senior Erin Guty made up the 4x100 that clocked a 48.15 for fourth place.
