Lori Dauphiny has had a lasting impact on Princeton Rowing. After Saturday, her presence will never leave the Shea Rowing Center. Except when it’s on the water, of course.

And you get the feeling that is exactly how she would want it.

The Princeton open rowing team will dedicate a boat to Lori Dauphiny, the two-time National Coach of the Year, following Saturday’s home regatta against Clemson. Dauphiny has led Princeton to five Ivy League Championships, including two of the last three, and her varsity boat won the NCAA Championship in both 2006 and 2011. Her presence was felt in the 2012 London Games, when five former open rowers competed in the Olympics.

“Lori has been a huge part of my Princeton career and I would not be the rower I am today without her coaching and guidance,” senior Maggie Cochrane said. “She has cemented an amazing legacy of coaching here at Princeton and I am so fortunate to have been able to develop under her expertise. I don’t think I would have been able to reach this level of athleticism without her and her dedication to our team and our success is unwavering.”

While Cochrane and her classmates will be excited to praise Dauphiny, the humble Princeton coach would likely rather see the attention focused on her Tigers, especially the Class of 2014. Saturday will also be Senior Day for a program that has exhibited great depth over the last two years.

“There has always been healthy internal competition within our class and this year we really have pushed each other to new levels,” Cochrane said. “We have all improved so much over our four years and I’m so happy to race my senior season with my fellow 2014ers. We are a larger senior class than in past years and we all want to end our time here with a great postseason that will do our class proud.”

The postseason begins May 18 at the Ivy League Championships, but Cochrane can create some history this weekend. She has been part of the 2V all season, and that boat has a chance to cap a perfect year Saturday against Clemson.

“It would be amazing to complete a perfect season,” she said. “Our boat has worked so hard in the past few months to improve and push ourselves. An undefeated season would legitimize all our hard work and really put us in a good place going into the Ivy Championships in a few weeks. Hopefully we will continue to gain speed and progress as a boat in the next month.”

The final home date of the Princeton racing season is this Saturday, beginning with the Content Cup showdown. Following the women’s race, the PURA will dedicate the boat to head coach Lori Dauphiny.
