PRINCETON, N.J. (4/11/14) - The Princeton track & field teams hosts the Princeton Quad Meet on Saturday, April 12 at Weaver Stadium.

The Tigers will square off with Monmouth, St. John's and Vermont. The first event of the day will be the women's hammer throw at 10:30 a.m. The first track event is at 12 p.m.


 

The Princeton men won five events last weekend at the Sam Howell Invitational. The 4x100 relay started Day 2 with a victory and four individuals followed up with wins.

Sophomore Dre Nelson, sophomore John Hill, junior Daniel McCord and senior Tom Hopkins won the 4x100 relay with a time of 31.63.

Hopkins went on to win the long jump at 7.34 (24-1) as Princeton went 1-3-5 in the event. He was one of just two jumpers to jump beyond seven meters. In third place was sophomore Jack Scinto with a jump of 6.99 (22-11.25) and junior Stephen Soerens was fifth at 6.80 (22-3.75).

Hopkins wasn’t finished as he was the top collegiate in the 200 and second overall at 21.40.

Junior Bradley Paternostro came out on top of 45 other competitors in the 1500 to win the race. He clocked a 3:53.51 for the win. Freshman William Paulson was the runner up in the 1500 elite race at 3:49.91 in what was a tight race to the finish between three competitors. Paulson was two hundredths of a second behind the winner and one hundredth of a second in front of the third-place finsiher. 

In the field, senior Damon McLean was the only triple jumper to reach 15 meters as he captured the victory with a jump of 15.62 (51-3).

Other Tigers finishing in the top five included: junior Scott Rushton 5th in the shot put (16.42), freshman Jared Bell 5th in the discus (47.22), senior Omar Jarrett 4th in the high jump (2.00),  sophomore Bryan Oslin 4th in the pole vault (4.35).


The women's team saw a record performance by sophomore Julia Ratcliffe in the hammer throw. Ratcliffe threw a meet record 68.71, the best throw of the season for any thrower in the NCAA. She was just inches off her PR.

Freshman Megan Curham won the women's 5k to kick of Day 1. Curham cruised in at 16:33.06, more than 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the pack. Junior Kathern Fluehr was third at 16:55.62 as one of just three that finished the race in under 17 miuntes.

Freshman Rachael Chacko was the runner-up in the 1500 as she posted a 4:42.49. She was the top collegiate coming in behind a competitor from a track club.

Sophomore Meghan McMullin earned two second-place finishes. She was the runner-up in the 400 hurdles at 1:00.97 and was the first leg of the 4x400 relay that finished second. Along with junior Emily Broyles, senior Kristin Smoot and junior Kim Mackay the relay was second out of 21 relays at 3:50.33.

Other top five finishes included: senior Beth McKenna 4th in the 100 hurdles (14.68), freshman Allison Harris 3rd in the pole vault (3.60), sophomore Taylor Morgan 5th in the high jump (1.60), sophomore Sara Ronde 5th in the long jump (5.38)
