Lisa Boyce, Nikki Larson Discuss NCAA Championship Journey

Senior Lisa Boyce and sophomore Nikki Larson have both left the frigid temperatures in Princeton, N.J., and made their Spring Break trip to an even colder spot. Of course, they couldn't wait to get to Minneapolis, Minn., where the best swimmers in the NCAA will be heating up the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Both will represent Princeton this week at the 2014 NCAA Championships, held March 20-22 at the University of Minnesota. You can find the schedule, links for live scoring and video, and plenty more by accessing the NCAA Championship Central link atop the page.

Boyce, a nine-time individual Ivy League champion and the Career High Point Swimmer at the 2014 Ivy Championships, will compete in the 50 free, the 100 fly and the 100 free during her final collegiate meet. This will be her first year competing in the 100 fly at NCAAs, though she enters this meet ranked higher in that event (13th) than either of the other two.

Boyce has a Top 30 time in the 50 free, and she is 42nd in the 100 free. Boyce improved on her seed in the 100 free last year, when she reached the consolation final to earn her first All-America honor.

"I am so proud of Lisa getting invited to the NCAA Championships for the third year in a row," assistant coach Suzanne Yee said. "She did a great job of training through all of our 'bigger' meets this year, and trusted the process that will allow her to swim even faster in two weeks. With minimal rest, she set times early on in her events that she improved upon with even less rest for the Ivy Championships and for the ECAC meet.

"The fact that one of her highest ranked events is the 100 fly — where she holds the school record — is a testament to how talented she is, as it is an event she swims 1-2 times a year. She is the most prepared mentally this season, and will hopefully make the most of her last meet as a Tiger."

While Boyce is preparing for her final NCAA Championships, Larson earned a ticket to her first Championships. A native of Edina, Minn., she will be competing in the 100 and 200 fly at a venue only a few miles from home. Larson, the Ivy champion in the 100 fly, is currently ranked 34th in that event, and she is ranked 46th in the 200 fly.

"Nikki’s invitation to the NCAA Championships comes as no surprise, as she is a talented swimmer who will continue to improve in her remaining time as a Tiger," Yee said. "She has done a great job all year with her preparation for her championship swims. One of the things we emphasize on our team is swimming fast at the end of the year, and Nikki did just that in winning the 100 fly at the Ivy Championships in the time that got her invited.

"Nikki being invited marks the most swimmers we have had at the NCAA Championships in quite some time, and it is a great homecoming for Nikki, as she grew up in Minnesota," Yee added. "The presence of another athlete will definitely assist both women having a great experience at the meet."
