Anderson Wins Pole Vault; Tigers in 2nd Place after Day 1 at Heps

HANOVER, N.H. (3/1/14) – Senior Samantha Anderson kept the pole vault streak alive as she won Princeton's sixth straight pole vault title as the Princeton women's track & field began the 2014 Ivy League Heptagonal Championship today in Hanover, N.H.

Anderson cleared 3.90 (12-9.50) to win her first pole vault title. She follows Jessica Kloss who won in 2009, and Tory Worthen who won in 2010, 11, 12 and 13. Freshman Allison Harris showed that the streak has a chance to continue next year as she finished second clearing 3.70 (12-1.50) as the pair gave Princeton 18 points in the event.

After five events have been scored the Tigers are in second place, trailing Dartmouth by four points, 35-31. Columbia follows with 22, Harvard 21, Brown 20, Cornell 12, Yale eight and Penn six.

Freshman Megan Curham made her mark in her first indoor Heps. She was the runner-up to Dartmouth’s Abbey D’Agostino in the 5000. Curham ran 16:12.20, just 3.10 seconds behind D’Agostino, while the rest of the pack was 11 seconds behind the duo

Five more points came from the seniors of Theresa Kennedy and Beth McKenna in the pentathlon. Kennedy was fourth with 3,644 points while McKenna was sixth with 3512. Sophomore Kerry Krause was just one place out of scoring with 3,487 points.

Senior Kacie O’Neil and sophomore Meghan McMullin move on to the final of the 800. O’Neil had the second best time in the prelims at 2:10.28 while McMullin was fifth at 2:12.56. The final of the 800 will be held at approximately 1:20 p.m.

Junior Emily de La Bruyere and freshman Lizzie Bird both qualified for the final of the mile. Bird ran 4:52.23 and de La Bruyere 4:52.32 to move on to the 10-woman final tomorrow at 12:10 p.m.

Other events tomorrow include the high jump, triple jump, weight throw, 3k and the 4x4 and 4x800 relays.
