DAY 1 BRACKETS

Junior Adam Krop had the longest journey of any Princeton wrestler at the 51st Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, but his goals of a placewinner finish fell one match short during the Monday finish of the competition.

Krop, seeded third in the 141-pound weight class, opened his first day with a pair of decisions, including an 8-5 win over Sahid Kargbo of George Mason. That moved Krop to the quarterfinal, where he suffered a tough 10-8 overtime loss to Steven Rodriguez of Illinois. He needed one more victory to assure a Top 8 finish, but he was pinned with six seconds remaining in the second period against 10th-seeded Ryan Fillingame.

While there were several other wins throughout the opening day, the rest of the Princeton lineup was knocked out of placewinner contention during the first two sessions.Sophomore Judd Ziegler won a match in both the championship draw and the consolation draw at 165, but he was eliminated by a pair of seeded wrestlers.

Princeton sent two wrestlers into the 174-pound weight class, and both Ryan Callahan and Judd Ziegler won at least once. Callahan picked up a win in the championship bracket, while Ziegler won twice in the consolation draw. Ironically, both were knocked out in very close matches to the same competitor, Purdue's Pat Kissel.

Both junior Seth Hazleton (157) and sophomore Abe Ayala (197) won matches in their respective championship draws, while freshman Jordan Laster picked up a win in the 133-pound consolation draw.
