Calof Nets Hat Trick in Tigers' 4-3 Exhibition Win
PRINCETON, N.J. (10/19/13) - Senior Andrew Calof recorded a hat trick as the Princeton men's hockey team defeated Ryerson 4-3 on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Hobey Baker Rink. The Tigers swept the series after a 6-3 game last night.
Calof capped his hat trick with the game-winning goal with 32 seconds left in the second period. He began the period scoring two goals in the first 33 seconds, and just 22 seconds apart.
The goals came after sophomore Jonathan Liau scored an unassisted goal in the first period as he took on netminder Steve Gleeson one-on-one and won.
Ryerson rallied from its three-goal deficit and knotted the game at 3-3 with three straight goals in a span of 4:38. It began with a Kent McPherson power-play goal at 10:39 in the second period. Michael Fine and Dustin Alcock followed with goals.
Freshman Colton Phinney got the start and win in goal. He made 33 saves, including 14 in the final period.
Ryerson slightly outshot Princeton, 36-33. Gleeson made 17 saves in the first 30 minutes and Troy Passingham followed up with 12 as his replacement.
Princeton opens the second next weekend, hosting the Liberty Hockey Invitational at the Prudential Center. The Tigers will take on Dartmouth on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7:05 p.m., and Yale on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7:05 p.m.
