Four Named All-Academic in Women's Track
NEW ORLEANS (7/25/12) - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the women's 2012 Division I All-Academic Track & Field team. Earning the honors for Princeton are senior Alex Banfich, junior Tory Worthen and sophomores Theresa Devine and Molly Higgins.
Banfich's indoor time in the 5k qualified her. She ran 16:33.17 at the Boston Classic to rank 67th in the nation. This is the fifth time she has been named to the All-Academic team in her career.
Devine qualified in the indoor 5k as well. Running a 16:40.23 at indoor Heps was good enough for 86th in the nation.
Worthen is making the All-Academic team for the second straight year. She qualified in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Indoor, her pole vault of 4.12 (13-6.25), which won her the Heps title, ranked 24th in the nation. She also competed at the East Regional outdoors and finished 18th with a vault of 3.95 (12-11.5).
Higgins competed in the 1500 at the East Regional. She qualified with a time of 4:24.24 and clocked a 4:28.25 in the first round of the Regional.To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
