Ratcliffe Claims Regional Field Athlete of the Year Honors

NEW ORLEANS (6/9/14) - Two days away from the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, sophomore Julia Ratcliffe adds another honor to her resume as she was named the Regional Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Ratcliffe boasts the best mark in the nation in the hammer throw at 70.28 (230-7). It marks the furthest throw in the collegiate hammer since 2011, and the fifth best throw in collegiate history. Ratcliffe had an undefeated season in the event, that saw her with a win at Penn Relays, with the third-best throw in Relays history, Heps, the ECAC and the NCAA Regional to name just a few. She holds not only the Princeton and Ivy League record in the hammer throw, but also the New Zealand national record as a Hamilton, New Zealand native.
The women's NCAA hammer throw championship is Wednesday, June 11 at 1:30 p.m. PT at the University of Oregon.
