Women's Track Wins Tri-Meet
PRINCETON, N.J. (1/10/14) - The Princeton women's track & field team won a tri-meet against St. John's and St. Joseph's tonight at Jadwin Gym. The Tigers scored 161 points with St. Joe's second with 88 and St. John's third with 85.
Princeton won five of six field events.
Sophomore Julia Ratcliffe won the weight throw with a throw of 18.91 (62-0.50). Her best toss came on her second attempt, while she cleared 18.62 and 18.46 on two other attempts.
Sophomore Brielle Rowe captured a win in the shot put at 11.70 (38-4.75), hitting the mark on her fourth attempt. Her throw nearly two feet further than the runner up from St. John's.
In the pole vault the win went to freshman Lauren Santi. Santi cleared 3.35 (10-11.75).
Freshman Alexandra Lanzafame was the runner-up in the long jump, missing first place by just 1/4 of an inch. She jumped to 5.28 (17-4) on her fifth jump of the night.
Princeton went 1-2-3-4 in the high jump with sophomore Taylor Morgan winning the event. She cleared 1.65 (5-5) on her first attempt. Sophomore Inka Busack and senior Theresa Kennedy reached 1.60 (5-3) and sophomore Kerry Krause cleared 1.55 (5-1).
Wrapping up the victories in the field was senior Imani Oliver. She was the only triple jumper to reach 12 meters as she leapt to 12.54 (41-1.75) on her fifth attempt. Lanzafame was third at 10.96 (35-11.50).
Princeton went 1-2-3-4-5 in the mile. Junior Kathryn Fluehr led the way with a 5:02.00. Freshman Rachael Chacko wasn't far behind at 5:02.05, a new PR, followed by senior Marisa Cummings at 5:03.91, senior Clare Gallagher at 5:09.39 and freshman Zoe Sims 5:13.07.
The Tigers were storng in the 500 as well taking the first four places. Junior Kim Mackay won the event at 1:16.20 with senior Kacie O'Neil second with a PR of 1:16.77. Sophomore Meghan McMullin and Emily Broyles followed at 1:17.01 and 1:17.65.
The 4x800 relay of Bird, Chacko, Sims and Katie Hanss earned a win at 9:18.72.
Princeton will take a break for semester exams and returns to competition on Feb. 1.
