DES MOINES, Iowa (6/23/13) – Ashley Higginson ’11 has made the US Track & Field national team as she finished second in the women’s steeplechase at the USA Track & Field Championships in Des Moines on Saturday, June 22. Higginson will compete in the World Championships in Moscow in August.

Higginson finished in second place at 9:46.25 at the US nationals. She maintained position in the top four the entire race, mostly running in behind the leader as she recorded splits of 43.48, 1:17.25, 1:17.73, 1:18.82, 1:19.31, 1:18.11, 1:17.62 and 1:13.96, the second fastest time on the bell lap.

Higginson, who is in her first year of law school, broke through the fourth-place barrier, a position she had finished in at last years US Olympic qualifier that left her off the team. Higginson was also fourth in her heat during the prelims on Thursday, when she clocked a 9:58.99 to finished sixth overall to advance to the final.

More Orange and Black representation came from Carrie [Strickland] Dimoff ’05 in the event. Dimoff was fifth in her heat and ninth overall at 10:02.44 in the prelims to qualify for the finals. She finished 14th in the final at 10:33.85.

Recent 2013 graduate Greta Feldman competed in the 800. She was fifth in her heat and 21st overall at 2:03.98. That time is the second-fastest of her career after running a 2:03.34 at the America Milers in Indianapolis last weekend.

Donn Cabral’12 raced in the final of the men’s steeplechase but did not make the team, finishing in sixth place at 8:33.95. Cabral was in the top pack the entire race, racing as high as third and never below seventh. He was fourth overall in the prelims at 8:38.06. Cabral was a member of the US Olympic team last year and finished eighth in the Olympics.

Joe Stilin ’12 was the fourth Princeton alum to compete. Stilin is attending graduate school at Texas and recently completed his eligibility as a Longhorn during the indoor season. Stilin raced in the 1500 and finished ninth in his heat and 20th overall at 3:45.98.

Current Princeton assistant coach and two-time national champion Robby Andrews competed in the 800 and was seventh in his heat and 25th overall at 1:50.34.

The USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships were also held this week in Des Moines. Greg Caldwell ’16, Dave Pugliese ’16 and Brett Kelly ’16 all qualified for the Princeton men’s track & field.
