Higginson ran a PR of 9:34.49 in the steeplechase at the Aviva London Grand Prix on July 14. She finished sixth overall in the race.
Three days later she competed at the Spitzen Leichtathletik-Luzern in Lucerne, Switzerland. She ran a PR of 8:59.24 in the 3,000 finishing sixth overall.
Higginson narrowly missed making the Olympic team, finishing fourth at the US Track & Field trials in June. Her time at the trials of 9:38.06 in the steeplechase was not the first time she ran the Olympic A standard, but was a PR.
