Courtesy: Princeton Athletic CommunicationsPHILADELPHIA (4/26/12) - The Princeton women's 4x400 relay set a program record as the Penn Relays got underway at Franklin Field on Thursday, April 26.
The relay ran 3:41.07 in the 4x400 Heptagonal facing the other Ivy League squads with the exception of Brown. The time is 1.30 faster than the previous record of 3:42.37 set in 1982 by Betty Newsam, Sally Anderson, Sherri Hatton and Monica Egbuonu. That foursome incidentally earned All-America honors in the event in 1982. Sophomore Carrie Vuong kick started the relay with a split of 56.9, while senior Eileen Moran and freshman Cecilia Barowski both ran 53.9 in the middle legs. Senior Joie Hand followed up with a 56.1 in the last leg. The time of 3:41.07 makes the Ivy top-10 list.
The Tigers also competed in the Distance Medley Relay Championship of America event and finished fifth. Sophomore Molly Higgins, senior Danielle Glaeser sophomore Kacie O'Neil, junior Greta Feldman ran 11:13.40. Glaeser ran an incredible 57.0 in the second leg and O'Neil ran 2:08.6 in the third. Higgins ran the first in 3:29.1 and Feldman ran the final leg at 4:38.7. Princeton had the best time of the non-BCS schools beating Indiana by nearly three seconds. The time of 11:13.40 is the second best time run in program history. Catha Mullen, Laura Landry, Jordan Wagenseller, Cack Ferrell ran 11:12.53 in 2006. The next best time is 11:23.
A third relay competed and advances to the finals. Junior Abidemi Adenikinju, freshman Emily Easton, junior Erin Guty and senior Eileen Moran ran 46.80 in the 4x100 heats and qualified for the college final that will take place on Friday at 1:12 p.m.
In the lone non-relay track event of the day, Hand competed in the 400m hurdles and finished in 63.58.
Three Tigers competed in the pole vault. In the Championship pole vault junior Tory Worthen finished 10th with a mark of 3.80 (12-5.5). In the College pole vault, junior Lauren Tauscher cleared 3.65 (11-11.75) to take fourth. It was the best mark by a non-BCS school. Senior Bianca Reo reached 3.50 (11-5.75) in the same event.
The women get back at it tomorrow at 11 a.m., with the Eastern triple jump.
