PRINCETON, N.J. (5/2/14) - Junior Erin McMunn had a career-high seven goals, an Ivy League Tournament record, as No. 16 Princeton defeated Cornell 12-5 in the Ivy League semifinal on Friday on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium. The Tigers will face Penn in the championship game on Sunday at noon.

McMunn is just six goals away from her 100th career goal. Also nearing a milestone is junior Erin Slifer, who had two assists today and is two points shy of her 100th career point. Senior Mary-Kate Sivilli matched her career-best of three assists. Freshman Olivia Hompe had a three-point game with a goal and two assists. Sophomore Alexandra Bruno had a goal and an assist and classmate Anya Gersoff sored twice. On the defensive end, junior Annie Woehling made a season-high 10 saves in goal.

"I don’t think it was anything I did, it was more the feeds coming from MK and Hompe," McMunn said after the game when asked about her productive night. "I was really lucky the kids were looking to hit me today and the shots were falling. Honestly I think it was all about opening up, setting a pick for me that I happen to come off and get lucky to be the open one. We were really working well together tonight and looking for those feeds inside and I just happened to get a little lucky with seven of them.”

Woehling also credited her teammates with her success. "There are 11 girls in front of me. They make my job easier. I think we were forcing the shots that I like to see, personally, so the defense was doing their jobs really well."

It took Princeton just 35 seconds to get on the board as Sivilli set up McMunn. However, Cornell offense went to work as the Tigers tried to shrug off some jitters. The Big Red were given six free-position attempts in the first 12:05, but was 0 for 5 with Woehling making three saves. Cornell had built up a 10-2 shot advantage before Princeton went on a commanding 5-0 run to end the half.

Senior Sarah Lloyd had an eight-meter attempt but dished off to McMunn who was just on the arc near the crease. Bruno and McMunn scored back-to-back within 44 seconds of each other to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead. With a double team on Slifer she found junior Blake Dietrick open for the goal and it was McMunn from Sivilli again to close out the first-half scoring.

D'Amico scored her team's second goal, and would have three of the Big Red's five, to kick start the second half. Cornell wouldn't get another goal for the next 19:08 as the Tigers went on another 5-0 run. McMunn scored twice, Gersoff scored both of her goals and Hompe capped off the run, as Princeton grabbed an 11-2 lead with 16:09 to play.

Ten minutes later Cornell's leading scorer Lindsay Toppe had cut her team's deficit to 11-4 with two straight tallies.

McMunn added one more goal, for good measure, with help from Hompe at 5:09.

D'Amico finished off her hat trick with the game's final goal at 1:30.

Cornell had a 26-24 advantage in shots, while Princeton had a 15-11 edge in ground balls. The Tigers came up big in draw controls, winning 13 of 19. Cornell was 1 of 6 in free positions and Princeton 0 for 1.

Princeton now 11-5 on the season will face No. 15 Penn on Sunday for the Ivy League's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Penn defeated Harvard 10-9 in double overtime in the first semifinal. The game will take place in Princeton on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.
