Box Score & Play-by-Play: Game 1 | Game 2

After trading zeroes in Saturday's opener, Princeton and Cornell combined for 22 hits in game two, but both games went Cornell's way, 2-0 and 8-6, as the teams opened a four-game series at the Class of 1895 Field.

Shanna Christian took a no-hitter into the fifth inning in the opener and had the shutout until Christina Villalon's two-run home run gave the Big Red a 2-0 lead in the top of the seventh. Cornell's Alyson Onyon kept the shutout through the end, giving up five hits without a walk and keeping Princeton no further than second base.

Princeton and Cornell had 10 hits between them in the first game and more than doubled that in the nightcap. After the teams each put up three runs in the first inning, Maddie Cousens hit a two-run home run to put Princeton ahead 5-3 in the second, and that stood until the top of the fourth when Sophie Giaquinto hit a 3-run home run to put the Big Red ahead 7-5. That made a winner of Onyon, who entered in the fourth inning and held Princeton to just a hit over 3 2/3 innings in relief.

Maddie Cousens was the only Tiger to get a hit in both halves of the doubleheader Saturday. She went 1 for 3 in the first game and 2 for 4 in the nightcap, including the home run that gave Princeton a 5-3 lead.

The plays of each game were home runs for the Big Red. In the seventh inning of the opener, Christina Villalon's two-run shot accounted for the only runs of the game. In the nightcap, Sophie Giaquinto hit a three-run shot that turned a 5-4 Princeton lead into a 7-5 Cornell advantage, and the Tigers weren't able to close the gap.

• Penn closed its series with Columbia Saturday by taking three of four from the Lions to clinch the Ivy South division. The Ivy North is still undecided since Harvard and Dartmouth weren't able to play Saturday in Cambridge. They are scheduled to play two Sunday in Hanover, but nothing will be able to be clinched before the weekend is out.

• Haley Hineman's 3-for-4 nightcap was the second-most hits the freshman has had in a game this season. Hineman went 4 for 4 in a game against Brown on April 6.

• Sophomore Kate Miller had a hit in the first game, coupling her hit in the second game last Sunday against Penn to give her hits in back-to-back games for the first time as a Tiger.

• Rachel Rendina went 3 for 4 in the nightcap for her third three-hit game this season.

• In the opener, freshman Marissa Reynolds had her second two-hit game as a Tiger.

Princeton and Cornell will wrap the series and the Tigers' season Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader. The team will honor seniors Maddie Cousens and Tory Roberts as well as Khristin Kyllo, who passed away as a freshman in 2011. Attendees are invited to wear purple Sunday for epilepsy awareness in Kyllo's honor. For more information, visit Purple Day at PurpleDay.org and SUDEP Aware at sudepaware.org.
