While the eighth-ranked Princeton open women are focused on both the present and future, there had to have been a bit of satisfaction Saturday morning aimed at past results. One year after its lone regular season lost cost the Tigers the Class of 1975 Cup, Princeton reclaimed the Cup on the Charles River with an open water victory over Cornell.

It was actually Harvard that won the Cup on the Cayuga Inlet last year, but the Tigers defeated both the Crimson and the Big Red to win its third of five races during the morning regatta. The Princeton 2V kept its perfect season alive with an open water win, while the third varsity eight also won. Harvard won both of its races in the fours.

Princeton has now won The Class of 1975 Cup 25 times, almost doubling up Harvard's total of 13. It was Princeton's sixth win in the last seven years, and it was especially sweet after the 2013 defeat.

"Going from one season to the next, there's always a sense of building upon the year prior," senior coxswain Annie Prasad said after Princeton's win in 6:47.7. "And I think that really highlights what is most fun about racing the other Ivies for various Cups — there's a sense of longtime tradition and competition that carries on from year to year."

The victory moves Princeton to 4-2, 3-1 in the Ivy League, and gave Princeton its first Cup win of the season.

"The key today was coming together as boat and really moving together," Prasad said. "It allowed us to execute our race to the best of our ability."

While Princeton races each fall on the famed Boston river, the 2K race is held on a different part of the course than the Head of the Charles. As a senior, Prasad did have some experience with the course, though, as Princeton competed for the Class of 1975 Cup on the Charles River her freshman year.

"Familiarity is always nice, but it's fun and challenging to race at different courses, and we thank Radcliffe for welcoming us on their course and in their boathouse," she said. "Racing in the Basin my freshman year was certainly a plus."

Both the second and third varsity eights had solid wins, with the 2V taking its race by 8.8 seconds in 6:48.7. The 3V won by 22 secons, while the varsity four fell by 6.8 seconds to the Crimson.

Princeton returns to Lake Carnegie next Saturday morning for a 9 am showdown with Yale for the Eisenberg Cup. That will open a full morning on Lake Carnegie, as both the men's lightweights and women's lightweights will also host Cup races.
