Women's Track & Field Wins Fourth Straight HYP Meet

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/9/13) - The Class of 2013 recorded a 4-0 record at the HYP meet as the Princeton women's track and field team won its fourth straight at Jadwin Gym on Saturday, Feb. 9. The Tigers scored 79 points, while Harvard had 55 and Yale finished with 25.

Harvard led the meet during the first five events. Princeton and Harvard swapped the lead until the ninth event, the long jump. The Tigers scored 9.5 out of a possible 11 points in the long jump to take the lead and wouldn't give up the top spot throughout the rest of the meet.

Senior Erin Guty had a spectacular meet, scoring in three events. She won the pivotal long jump event while Princeton also finished second and third in the event. Guty jumped to 5.65 for the win, while freshman Sara Ronde reaching 5.44 on three different attempts. Junior Theresa Kennedy reached 5.23 on her second attempt to take third. Guty also scored in the 60 and in the 200. Kennedy scored in the high jump as well.

Princeton went 1-2-3 for 10 out of a possible 11 points in the 3,000. All three clocked PRs. Sophomore Emily de La Bruyere ran 9:31.47 to win the race. Sophomore Jackie Nicholas clocked 9:36.47 for second while senior Abby Levene was third at 9:39.39.

Senior Greta Feldman won the mile at 4:52.46 and was the runner-up in the 800 at 2:14.70. Classmate Alexis Mikaelian was second in the mile with a time of 4:55.42. Mikaelian was on the winning 4x800 relay as well. Juniors Molly Higgins, Kacie O'Neil and Kristin Smoot beat Yale in a dual race by 29.24 seconds. Smoot also was a scorer in the 800 finishing in third place behind Feldman.

Another Tiger to record first and second-place finishes was sophomore Cecilia Barowski. Barowski won the 400 at 55.47 and was second in the 200 at 25.15. She also made up one leg of the wining 4x400 relay. Barowski along with seniors Melissa Zajdel, Joie Hand and sophomore Kim Mackay clocked 3:49.08 to beat Harvard by more than six seconds.

Senior Tory Worthen won the pole vault as she cleared 3.91. Classmate Lauren Tauscher was third reaching 3.70.

In the triple jump, junior Imani Oliver picked up the win with a jump of 12.15. Freshman Taylor Morgan was third with a mark of 11.02. Morgan was also the runner-up in the high jump, clearing 1.73.

Freshman Julia Ratcliffe was the runner-up in the weight throw, throwing to 19.74 on her second attempt.

Other scorers include: Beth McKenna in the hurdles with a PR, Abidemi Adenikinju in the 60, and Meghan McMullin in the 400.

Princeton hosts the Princeton Invitational next Saturday, Feb. 16, in the final meet before Heps.
