PRINCETON -- Liza Kuhn shut out Seton Hall in Tuesday's first game to give the Princeton softball team a 2-0 win, but the visiting Pirates turned the tables in the second game, shutting out Princeton 5-0.

With the split, Princeton moves to 6-19 on the season heading into its trip to Yale and Brown this weekend. The Pirates remained even at 18-18.

Game 1: Princeton 2, Seton Hall 0

Princeton scored both of its runs in the third inning, starting the frame with a Candy Button double before she came home on a single by Alyssa Schmidt. The Tigers scored the second run on an Alex Peyton grounder that brought home Nicole Ontiveros, who had reached on a fielder's choice.

Kuhn got into trouble only in the fifth and seventh innings, extricating herself both times. Seton Hall loaded the bases with nobody out on two walks and a single before Kuhn got two strikeouts and a flyout to end the threat. In the seventh, a single and a double had Pirates at second and third with one out, but another strikeout-flyout combo saved the win.

Kuhn (3-7) finished with eight strikeouts while giving up two walks and four hits. Brooke Tull (2-5) took the loss in five innings of work for Seton Hall.

Game 2: Seton Hall 5, Princeton 0

Meredith Brown took the circle for the Tigers in game two, but Seton Hall jumped ahead early with runs in the first and third before adding to it late in a 5-0 win.

A single and a double lead to the first Pirate run in the opening frame, while a Brittany Hammer solo shot put the Pirates up 2-0 in the third.

Brown (1-4) left after the fourth having given up five hits and the two runs, striking out three without a walk. Alex Peyton took over for the fifth and kept Seton Hall off the board until the seventh, using four two-out singles to make it a 5-0 lead.

Princeton got a runner to third base on one occasion, using a Cara Worden double and a groundout to get the freshman Worden to third, but that came with two outs and the Tigers stranded her there.

Casey Moses (6-5) scattered six hits and struck out two without a walk to get the win for the Pirates.

Princeton will head to Yale for a twinbill Friday before continuing on to Brown for two more Saturday as the Ivy League season resumes.
